een ode aan de goddelijkheid van de materie

Tijd voor een feestje! Ik heb namelijk mijn eerste fotoexpositie. En ik doe het meteen goed, want deze wordt geopend door de Haagse wethouder van Cultuur Jetta Klijnsma. Dit alles op zaterdag 9 juni tussen 16.00 en 18.00 uur en wel in Galerie Toon je kunst op de hoek van de Beeklaan (nr. 341) en de Copernicusstraat (nr. 123) te Den Haag. De expositie loopt tot en met 17 juli.

Onze wethouder/loco-burgemeester komt natuurlijk niet alleen voor mij opdraven. Ik ben in goed gezelschap; andere deelnemers aan deze expositie zijn Peter Albus (fotografie), Maurits Burgers (schilderijen), Anja Gerritsen (schilderijen), Marcel Prins (beelden), Hans Rietbergen (schilderijen), Lucia Schouten (beelden), Liesbeth Spek (schilderijen), Peter Tholen (miniaturen, diverse technieken), Ed Vervoorn (schilderijen) en Kees Wattjes (schilderijen).

Verwacht je dat het de negende te druk wordt om de werken goed te bekijken? Ik wel! Daarom nodig ik je ook van harte uit op zondag 1 juli in de galerie. Ik ontvang dan mijn gasten tussen 14.00 en 17.00 uur en zal zorgen dat er een paar flesjes wijn klaarstaan. Ik hoop je te zien!

A few months ago I made a new version of a video I once made as a tribute to Maurits. We both left the moblog Textamerica and were looking for new places to settle. Blogger, Flickr and YouTube were easily found, although Maurits also has videos on serveral (better playback quality) sites. Check out http://www.mauritsburgers.com to find them yourself.

Another thing about this vid: I took it the first time I saw Maurits IRL after meeting him online at Textamerica. At the point this video was made, we even didn't say hello. Well, at Maurits vid you can see what came out of that.

Saddam Hussein on Eid ul-Adha

Again people dancing. This time shiite around the body of (sunni) Saddam Hussein who has been hanged today, ON ANOTHER RELIGIOUS DAY. Here in the Netherlands it is the 30th of december, also known as the first day of the Muslim sacrifice festival EID AL-ADHA, which is all about forgiving.

So... announcement on Christmas Day, hanging on Eid al-Adha.
So... far from humanity again.

Btw: do you think Saddams "symbolic sacrifice” on a religious day when Muslims slaughter animals will make things worse?

Btw: What was Bush doing during this word event? Something as spectacular as talking to kids in school? I can't believe it's true, but I've read somewhere: "According to government spokesman Scott Stanzel, the execution happened at 10:00pm local time in Texas where Bush already slept at his ranch in Crawford. The president had been informed about the time of the execution by his security adviser Steven Hadley but prefered to end his day prior the event."

I'm flabbergasted and mad. Here in the Netherlands Christmas is celebrated two days. I was watching a feel good movie on the BBC after Sissi and it all worked great together. I was even dancing after the last movie. Yes, you can be human, look strange to others but be powerfull, yourself and still be a sweet person. I loved this Christmas thought.

Then the (English time) 8 o'clock news started and I found out that TODAY, the second day of CHRISTMAS, Saddam Hussein (yes, the the bastard) heard he will be HANGED in 30 days. So far for humanity. Shame on this.

2007 B&W Single Image Award

I thought we all took this picture

B&W, a paper magazine for collectors of fine photography just released her FEBRUARY 2007 issue. It's a special that features the winners of the yearly B&W Single Image Contest.

I was suprised by the winning photos. But not in a positiv way. Especially the choice of the golden award winner in the category pattern / texture raised questions.

I really like the photo, but... not much more than I liked mine when I took about the same picture a while back.
Doesn't every photographer have a simular picture in his archieves?

i've submitted a few pictures to the paper edition from JPG magazine. my photo's might get chosen for #7 and you can help a hand by voting on them! of course you can try to take your change as well. this is how it works:

1. shoot & upload
go take great photos like you always do. then upload the best ones here. photos must be high resolution originals - at least 2200 pixels tall or wide.

2. submit
you can submit your favorite photos to themes. themes are groups of photos on a common topic. you can only put one photo in each theme, and each photo can only be submitted to a single theme.

3. vote box
when a theme is scheduled to be included in an issue of JPG magazine, the voting box will appear on each of the photos you've submitted to a theme.

4. peer review
Your fellow photographers vote on your photo. Voting is about the quality of the photo as well as how well it fits the theme. getting lots of votes doesn't guarantee publication, but it helps.

5. final selection
the JPG editors make the final selections and put together the issue. this takes a few weeks. you will be notified by email on the status of your submission.

6. publication
if your photo is included in the new edition of JPG magazine, you get a free year subscription and $100.
